Hořava-Lifshitz gravity, extrasolar planets and the double pulsar

چکیده
We consider a spherically symmetric and asymptotically flat vacuum solution of the Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity that is the analog of the general relativistic Schwarzschild black hole. In the weak-field and slow-motion approximation, we work out the correction to the third Kepler law of a test particle induced by such a solution and compare it to the phenomenologically determined orbital periods of the transiting extrasolar planet HD209458b “Osiris” and of the double pulsar PSR J0737-3039A/B. The upper bounds on the HL adimensional parameter are ω0 ≤ 10 −15 from HD209458b and ω0 ≤ 10 −13 from PSR J07373039A/B. While the constrain from the pulsar is of the same order of magnitude of the most stringent one retrieved from the perihelion precessions of the inner planets of our solar system (10 − 10), the one by HD209458b is tighter by two orders of magnitude.

Constraining the Kehagias-Sfetsos Solution of the Ho!ava-Lifshitz Modi- fied Gravity with Extrasolar Planets
We consider the Kehagias-Sfetsos (KS) solution in the Ho!ava-Lifshitz gravity that is the analog of the general relativistic Schwarzschild black hole. In the weak-field and slow-motion approximation, we, first, work out the correction to the third Kepler law of a test particle induced by such a solution. Then, we compare it to the phenomenologically determined orbital period of the transiting e...
متن کاملIndirect observation of the extrasolar planetes
Astronomical observations provide evidence of extrasolar planets. Planets orbiting a star other than the Sun were first discovered in 1992. Wolszczan & Frail (1992) found a periodic delay in the pulses of the radio emission from a pulsar, indicating that two planetary-mass objects orbit a pulsar PSR 1257+12. Since then, more than 240 extrasolar planets have been found. As discussed below, extra...
متن کاملGalaxy Rotation Curves in Covariant Hořava-Lifshitz Gravity
Using the multiplicity of solutions for the projectable case of the covariant extension of Hořava-Lifshitz gravity, we show that an appropriate choice for the auxiliary field allows for an effective description of galaxy rotation curves. This description is based on static and spherically symmetric solutions of covariant Hořava-Lifshitz gravity and does not require Dark Matter.
متن کاملThe atmospheres of extrasolar planets
T he discovery was based on an analysis of anomalies in the periodicity of the pulsar radio signal. Three years later, M. Mayor and D. Quéloz reported the first detection of an exoplanet around a solar-type star, 51 Peg. The method used this time was the so-called radial velocity technique, which consists of measuring the velocity of the star around the center of gravity of the star-planet syst...
متن کاملSurplus Solid Angle: Toward Astrophysical Test of Hořava-Lifshitz Gravity
We consider electrostatic field of a point charge coupled to Hořava-Lifshitz gravity and find an exact solution describing the space with a surplus (or deficit) solid angle. Although, theoretically in general relativity, a surplus angle is hardly to be obtained in the presence of ordinary matter with positive energy distribution, it seems natural in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity. We present sudden di...
